"Home, Sweet Home" is more than a sanctuary for the body and mind; it is a "vessel of time" that holds memories and warmth. Here, architecture is no longer a cold physical presence. Instead, standing as a guardian, it responds to the elderly's yearning for dignity, companionship, and a sense of belonging.
The Rebirth of Stone and the Poetics of Place Reclaiming Waste Marble from Portuguese Quarries
Once dismissed as offcuts, these stones—bearing natural fracture planes and the patina of time—are given a second life in our hands. This "rebirth" is more than a response to ecological sustainability; it is a profound metaphor. Just as the twilight years should never be forgotten, these weathered stones possess an untamed, authentic power. Solid yet warm, they shed their inherent coldness to become like silent, loyal old friends, quietly accompanying every resident.
Embedded within the rough-hewn stone walls is an ergonomic handrail system. Resembling a pair of warm, steady hands, they guide the elderly with security and care through every pause and step of their daily journey.
True care lies in making obstacles invisible to the resident. The public spaces are meticulously tailored for wheelchair users, utilizing a continuous loop circulation that eliminates dead ends and barriers. This design renders movement effortless, fluid, and unburdened, allowing every senior to weave freely through the sunlight.
From the reclamation of discarded stone to the refinement of barrier-free details, "Home, Sweet Home" is a spatial practice rooted in love and dignity. It stands as a spiritual sanctuary filled with warmth, nature, and care—ensuring that life, amidst the flow of time, remains as sweet as ever.
