One Column Backyard is situated on a corner site in the dense town center of Érvy-le-Châtel, reimagining the backyard as a suspended space within the city.
Rather than retreating inward, it is lifted and shared—forming a quiet clearing between urban fabric and everyday life.
Here, openness, lightness, and collectivity coexist, allowing moments of pause and encounter to gently unfold at the corner.
The entire structure rests on a single column.
The roof is lifted first, from which the second floor is delicately suspended, like a floating plane.
Steel cables trace a quiet system of stability, while neighboring historic buildings subtly participate—structurally and symbolically.
The architecture thus lingers between dependence and independence, growing within a fragile equilibrium.
Visually, the pavilion maintains a deliberate distance from its surroundings.
Its blurred façade drifts among the old masonry walls—close yet distant, like an afterimage.
By tracing the former street frontage, the project allows vanished architecture to linger quietly in the air, preserving memory through absence.
